ITINERARY
Best Amazon Trip Peru – 4 Days
A unique natural spectacle: Chuncho Clay Lick
The Peruvian Amazon is home to one of the world’s most impressive natural phenomena: the clay lick, where macaws, parrots, and parakeets gather in large flocks to eat mineral-rich clay high in sodium, calcium, and potassium. These minerals help them neutralize toxins and balance their diet, making the clay licks essential for their survival.
Amazon Travels – Guacamayo Tambopata invites you to witness this natural spectacle up close, deep in the wild jungle with expert guides.
Full Itinerary – Best Amazon Trip Peru (4 Days)
Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Tambopata Inn Lodge
Your trip begins with pick-up from the Puerto Maldonado airport or bus station. From there, we head to our office in the Main Square for registration and tour briefing.
We continue in a 4×4 vehicle for 50 minutes to the Tambopata River port, where we board a motorized boat to navigate one of the most biodiverse rivers on Earth. Along the way, you may spot capybaras, birds, turtles, and caimans.
Upon arrival at Tambopata Inn Lodge, enjoy an Amazonian lunch. Afterwards, we take a walk through primary rainforest, home to giant trees, medicinal plants, vines, capuchin monkeys, squirrel monkeys, and a wide variety of bird species.
At night, we take a boat excursion to see spotted caimans, black and white caimans, and with luck, nocturnal felines such as the ocelot or even the jaguar roaming the riverbanks.
Day 2: Chuncho Clay Lick – Jungle Hikes & Sport Fishing
Very early, we navigate the Tambopata River for 1 hour and 30 minutes. At the Malinowski Ranger Station, enjoy a spectacular sunrise over the jungle.
