Day 1: Trip Puerto Maldonado – Lake Sandoval Refuge.
Welcome to the Amazon- Upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, we’ll meet you at the airport or bus terminal and whisk you away to our office for a quick registration with Amazonia Peru Expeditions.
Here, you’ll store your large luggage and prepare a smaller bag with essentials for your thrilling 3-day Amazon adventure. We’ll then head to the port and board a boat, cruising along the Abajo River of Alto Madre de Amazonia Adventure: Day 1 – Exploring Lake Sandoval Refuge
Welcome to the Amazon! Upon your arrival in Puerto Maldonado, we’ll meet you at the airport or bus terminal and whisk you away to our office for a quick registration with Amazonia Peru Expeditions.
Here, you’ll store your large luggage and prepare a smaller bag with essentials for your thrilling 3-day Amazon adventure. We’ll then head to the port and board a boat, cruising along the Abajo River of Alto Madre de Dios. Keep your eyes peeled for an array of wildlife, including birds, turtles, and sunbathing alligators.
Our journey continues to the Lake Sandoval Reserve checkpoint where you’ll register and start a scenic 3 km (1.2 miles) walk through the lush rainforest, spotting various species along the way. The trek, which takes about 1 hour and 20 minutes, leads to a small port where we’ll board a rowing canoe. Glide through a winding canyon to our lodge for the next two nights.
After settling into your private room, enjoy lunch before embarking on an afternoon exploration of the Lake Sandoval reserve. Navigate through the waters in a rowing canoe, and keep an eye out for the elusive Giant River Otter, Black Caimans, turtles, and a variety of exotic birds like the prehistoric Shansho, herons, cormorants, and kingfishers.
As night falls, join us for a nocturnal adventure on the lake. Paddle quietly through the darkness to spot caimans and other nocturnal creatures. Our knowledgeable guides will share fascinating insights about these nighttime residents. Return to the lodge to relax and rest in your comfortable private room.
Day 2: Trip to the Amazon – Macaw Palm Tree – Giant River Otters:
Rise early to the symphony of rainforest birds and savor a hearty breakfast. We’ll then row through the unique Collpa de Palmeras, where palm trees grow in the water, creating a vibrant habitat for macaws, parakeets, and parrots. These birds feast on the nutritious fruits and mineral-rich rinds of these palms.
After this captivating morning, head back to the lodge for lunch. In the afternoon, explore the dense primary jungle on foot. Wander through the untouched forest to encounter rare species such as monkeys, sloths, anteaters, and capybaras, alongside fascinating insects and plants like ayahuasca and chacruna. Marvel at ancient trees, some over 500 years old.
As the day winds down, embark on a canoe ride to witness one of the most stunning sunsets over Lake Sandoval. At 7 PM, return to the lodge for dinner and prepare for another evening adventure. After dark, set out to spot alligators and other nocturnal wildlife under the moonlight
Day 3: Amazon Trip back to Puerto Maldonado:
On our final day, wake up early to visit the palm clay licks, where macaws gather to consume mineral-rich clay. This essential activity aids their digestion and overall health. Afterward, return to the lodge for a final breakfast and take some time to capture the last photographs of the lake.
We’ll then pack up and take a canoe ride back to the entry point. From there, a boat will transport us back to Puerto Maldonado. Collect your luggage from our office, and we’ll transfer you to the airport or bus terminal for your onward journey.

TAMBOPATA CANDAMO TRIP .
Amazon basin in Peru with a sub-tropical climate and distinct wet and dry seasons. It originated in the late 1970s as the small Tambopata Reserved Zone comprising about 5,000 hectares, but was much enlarged to 1.5 million hectares in 1990 and now covers altitudes
from 240 to 3,500 metres, and habitats ranging from sub-tropical moist forest trip , to cloud forest, to tropical savannah. In September 2000 it was central in the creation of the Bahuaja-Sonene National Park which now covers 2.7 million hectares, protecting an ecosystem which holds several
