Itinerary  to Amazon Travels – Macaw Tambopata 3 days

Travel Day 1: Puerto Maldonado to Lodge Inn Rainforest – Amazon Travels – Macaw Tambopata

 Guests are picked up from the terrestrial terminal or airport and transferred to the Amazon Travels office in Puerto Maldonado.

Trip Commencement: From the office, the journey continues to Amazon Travels Macaw Clay Lick in a 4×4

Boat Ride: Upon reaching the river port, guests board a boat to travel upstream of the Tambopata River to reach the lodge.

Amazon Travels – Macaw Clay Lick Adventure: A 4-Day Wildlife and Jungle Experience

Day 1: Arrival in Puerto Maldonado – Journey to the Tambopata Rainforest

Your unforgettable Amazon adventure begins when we pick you up from Puerto Maldonado Airport or the bus terminal. From there, we head to our office where you can securely store your large luggage and pack only the essentials for your 4-day jungle adventure. Afterward, enjoy a scenic drive to the Tambopata port, where your boat awaits.

As we cruise along the Tambopata River, the jungle will reveal its wildlife treasures. Keep your eyes peeled for exotic birds, capybaras, turtles, and even white caimans basking in the sun. If you’re lucky, you might even spot a jaguar lounging on the riverbanks.

Upon reaching the lodge, we’ll welcome you with a refreshing Amazonian drink—perfect to start your immersion into the jungle. After settling into your room, join us for a delicious lunch before heading out for a guided walk through the pristine primary forest. Marvel at ancient trees and encounter fascinating creatures like insects, butterflies, monkeys, and frogs.

Day 2: Macaw Clay Lick and Jungle Exploration

Your second day begins early at 5:00 AM as we board the boat for an upstream journey along the Tambopata River. Along the way, you’ll be treated to a breathtaking sunrise—keep your eyes on the riverbanks for a chance to spot jaguars or even an anaconda!

Our first destination today is the world-famous Macaw Clay Lick. As we approach, we’ll position ourselves for an unobstructed view of the vibrant bird spectacle. Hundreds of parrots and colorful macaws descend onto the clay banks to ingest the mineral-rich clay, which helps them balance their diet and neutralize toxins. It’s a mesmerizing sight as red-and-green macaws and scarlet macaws join in a cacophony of color and sound.

While you enjoy a delicious, healthy breakfast in this natural paradise, be sure to snap some photos of the stunning bird display. Afterward, we’ll return to the lodge for a rest and lunch before heading out for an afternoon jungle hike. This walk will take you deeper into the rainforest, where you may encounter monkeys, tapirs, wild boars, and learn about the medicinal plants that have been used by Amazonian tribes for centuries.

As night falls, a thrilling night walk awaits, where you’ll spot nocturnal creatures foraging in the jungle. We’ll return to the lodge for another cozy night’s rest.

Day 3: Wildlife Walk and Return to Puerto Maldonado

Start your day with the sounds of the rainforest—likely howler monkeys and an array of tropical birds. After a hearty breakfast, we’ll take one final walk through the jungle, this time crossing the Mammal Clay Lick and continuing our search for more wildlife. Along the way, we’ll discuss the healing properties of plants like quinine (for malaria), cat’s claw, and the sacred ayahuasca, used for centuries in indigenous Amazonian medicine.

After lunch, we’ll embark on our journey back to Puerto Maldonado. We’ll board the boat for a scenic ride back along the river to the Tambopata port, where a private vehicle will take you to Puerto Maldonado city. Depending on your departure time, we’ll transfer you to the airport or bus terminal to conclude your unforgettable Amazon adventure.

Amazonia To Bolivia: To get to Bolivia  are two iptions One  is Brasilea in Brasil crossing the river  to the  Bolivian border town of Cobija , where there is further trans- portation into Bolivia travel . The second option is by travel boat to Puerto Pardo/Puerto Heath in wildlife travel . The   can either be done on a cargo boat (ask at the port; may be hard to find) or by a motorized boat , which will take half a day  .

There are immigration off-cials and basic lodging on each side of the border in . From the border, you can continue on into Bolivia down the travel Madre de Dios River to Riberalta, where connections by road can be made elsewhere in Bolivia. This route sees few travelers and you wil wait around for long periods of time to get anywhere to Rainforest .

To Brazil – To get to Brazil you must cross the Madre de Dios River  and catch a local bus to Iñapari. From there you can go on foot (one km) to the Brazilian border town of Assis travel. You must get your  exit/entry stamp in lñapari amazon, and money can be changed there as well.

A few basic hospedajes sit on each side of the border. If heading to Brazil , you must  Brasiléia, 115 knm/69 miles away, for immigration. All Americans need a visa to enter Brazil.

 

TAMBOPATA NATIONAL RESERVE .

Tambopata  Rainforest  45 km / 28 miles south of Puerto Maldonado (travel 2 hours by motorboat).  There is also an alternative route: 25 km / 16 miles by land (by 4×4 vehicle) to the community of Infierno and then a river crossing to the reserve (2 hours by  55 HP motor boat travel) Located between the basins of the Tambopata and Heath Rivers, the reserve covers an area of 274.690 hectares and is found in both the Madre de Dios and Puno departments. The wealth of its biodiversity is  immeasurable, and scientist have already registered 632 bird species, 1200 butterfly species, 169 mammal species, 205 fish amazon wildlife sandovalspecies, 103 amphibian species, and 67 reptile

species in the amazon. The vegetation is typical of tropical regions. To enter the reserve, prior authorization from INRENA is required in rainforest travel.

As major seed predators, macaws and other parrots are engaged in an “evolutionary race” with plant species,  which have developed a protection mechanism where their seeds contain chemical defences – toxins that are  either distasteful or harmful to birds that eat them. Macaws engage in geophagy (eating soil) as a way to counter these toxins. Geophagy occurs at clay licks – special deposits of clay found along riverbanks – where macaws and  parrots gather in large numbers to consume clay  jungle amazon , which is high in sodium. The  travel Tambopata National Reserve is a nationally protected area of tropical lowland forest amazon in the Peruvian Amazon.

The  Reserve was created by the  Peruvian government in 1990 to protect the watersheds of the Tambopata and Candamo Rivers, and surrounding rainforest. T he world’s largest clay lick, Colpa Colorado, is found here among  the many clay licks of the amazon rainforest travel. Tambopata River travel.
