Discover the Tambopata National Reserve: Access and Natural Wonders
Origins of the Tambopata National Reserve
The Tambopata National Reserve was established on September 4, 2000, as a result of Peruvian government regulations aimed at protecting this valuable area since the 1970s. The main goal of the reserve is to preserve the tropical rainforest ecosystem and promote the sustainable use of forest resources, particularly benefiting the native communities living in the buffer zone.
Why is the Tambopata National Reserve Famous?
The Tambopata National Reserve is renowned for its extraordinary biodiversity. It is known to host the largest concentration of vibrant macaws and parrots in the world. Additionally, it is home to over a hundred species of mammals and more than a thousand species of butterflies.
With around 600 species of birds and hundreds of varieties of plants and trees, this natural paradise attracts both ecologists and tourists alike. Its location at the confluence of the lowland Amazon rainforest with three other ecosystems contributes to its rich biological diversity.
At least 13 endangered species inhabit the reserve, including the jaguar, giant river otter, and giant armadillo. There are also a variety of activities and attractions to enjoy with friends and family.
