Wildlife Photographer Peru 5 days
Day 1: Beauty of Sandoval Lake
Your adventure begins as our team meets you at the Puerto Maldonado airport and guides you through the city to the boat dock on the Tambopata River. Here, you’ll embark on a motorized canoe, navigating towards the confluence with the Madre de Dios River—the very source of the Amazon. After a scenic 50-minute journey, we’ll reach the landing port for Sandoval Lake.
Prepare your camera for a 2 km trail hike where you might capture vibrant shots of playful monkeys, exotic birds, and fluttering butterflies. The trail leads to a narrow canal through a flooded palm forest, offering unique perspectives and hidden photo opportunities.
At the lake, you’ll switch to a paddle canoe—engage in serene, motor-free exploration as you glide across the tranquil waters to our lodge, perfectly positioned on the lake’s edge. Enjoy the comfort of hot showers and prepare for more photographic adventures ahead. (Lunch & Dinner included).
Days 2-3: Immersing in the Amazon’s Wonders
On these days, we delve deep into the lush forests surrounding Sandoval Lake, capturing the majestic flora including towering Brazil Nut and Kapok trees—two of the region’s giants. Our exploration spans both floodplain and terra firme forests, offering diverse wildlife viewing opportunities.
Our quest for the elusive Giant River Otters continues as we navigate the lake’s expanse. In the evenings, we set out in our paddling canoes to seek out the enigmatic Black Caiman, a reptilian cousin of the North American Alligator.
The rich ecosystems around Sandoval Lake are teeming with opportunities for incredible wildlife photography. Monkeys are particularly abundant, providing dynamic and captivating subjects.
