The Bird watching Tambopata Amazonia Reserve, nestled within the Amazon rainforest of southeastern Peru, stands as a testament to the incredible biodiversity and natural beauty of the region. Spanning over 1.3 million hectares, this vast expanse of pristine wilderness is renowned as one of the most biodiverse areas on the planet.

Encompassing a diverse range of ecosystems, from lush lowland rainforests to towering canopy forests and winding rivers, Tambopata Reserve is home to an astonishing array of flora and fauna. Its rich tapestry of life includes thousands of plant species, countless insect species, and an impressive diversity of mammals, birds, reptiles, and amphibians.

Day 01: Arrival and Tambopata River Journey to Bird watching Tambopata Amazonia

Arrival in Puerto Maldonado and transfer to the tour office.
Transfer to Infierno Native Community port.
Boat trip up the Tambopata River, with birdwatching opportunities.
Arrival at the lodge, check-in, lunch, and rest.
Afternoon trail walk for nocturnal bird spotting.
Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 02: Tambopata Rainforest Trek -Bird watching Tambopata Amazonia .

Early breakfast followed by a trek to Lake Cocococha.
Birdwatching along the trail, with chances to see various species.
Paddling around Lake Cocococha, looking for giant river otters.
Return to the lodge for lunch and rest.
Night boat trip for alligator spotting and nocturnal birdwatching.
Dinner and overnight at the lodge.

Day 03: Canopy Tower and Forest Walk

Breakfast followed by a visit to the 42-meter-high tower for canopy birdwatching.
Observation of various bird species including macaws, toucans, and possibly the harpy eagle.
Return to the lodge, with birdwatching along the trail.
Afternoon forest walk along various trails, spotting different bird species.
Return to the lodge for dinner and overnight stay.

Day 04: Return to Puerto Maldonado

Early breakfast and check-out.
Transfer by boat to the Infierno Native Community and then by private transport to Puerto Maldonado.
Transfer to the airport or terrestrial terminal for departure.
This condensed itinerary provides a clear overview of each day’s activities, making it easier for travelers to understand and plan accordingly.

ITINERARY

Bird watching Tambopata Amazonia 4 days

DAY 01: LIMA / PUERTO MALDONADO / TAMBOPATA

Upon arrival at the airport/Terrestrial Terminal, our guide will be waiting for you, then transfer to the office for registration and leave backpacks or large suitcases to carry what is necessary for the tour. Immediately we will move to the port in the Native Community called Infierno. Along the way we will make stops in search of species such as the Large Pootoo, the Purus Jacamar and the White-throated Jacamar. Arrival at the port to embark on the outboard boat to begin the trip up the Tambopata River, where we will have the opportunity to observe some species such as orioles, tanagers and flycatchers.
Cocoi Heron, the Great Egret, some parrots and macaws in flight and, with luck, we will even have more chances to spot a flock of sand-colored falcons or other rare species.

Then we will arrive at our hostel where we will settle into our respective rooms and then we will enjoy a delicious lunch.

After a brief rest, we will take a walk along the trails in search of some nocturnal species, such as the Great Owl, and with a little luck we will be able to observe the Great Horned Owl.
Return for dinner and rest in our private rooms.

DAY 02: TAMBOPATA RAINFOREST TREKK.

Today we will get up very early to enjoy breakfast and then we will begin the walk towards Lake Cocococha, approximately 5 ½ km, enjoying the sighting of different bird species such as. Horned Screamer, Hoatzin, Anhinga and various types of jacanas, kingfishers, and perhaps red-bellied macaws and blue and yellow macaws. With luck, we will be able to see the rare Agami Heron, the Sharp-tailed Nuthatch and the Long-billed Nuthatch.
Like many lake birds and some that are migratory, we will have the possibility of observing the giant river otters that are in danger of extinction. After a few hours paddling around Lake Cococoha, after this experience return to the lodge, exploring the tropical forest during the walk looking for new species.
We will arrive at the hostel approximately 4 pm to rest before dinner.

After the delicious dinner, with a lot of energy, we will do a night activity on our boat along the river to spot alligators, with the possibility of seeing other species of nocturnal birds such as. the ladder-tailed nightjar, the common cacabra and the tropical owl.

DAY 03: TAMBOPATA AMAZING TRIPS.

Today we will wake up to the songs of the birds to enjoy our breakfast and then we will visit the 42-meter-high tower, to be able to observe the birds in the canopy. Where We Will Observe Some species such as. Golden Bearded, Amazon Pygmy Owl, Purple-throated Fruit Crow, White-necked Puffin, Paradise Tanager, Turquoise Tanager, Green and Golden Tanager, as well as the possibility of seeing species of macaws, parrots, toucans and aracaris and, with a lot of luck , the harpy eagle, in danger of extinction. After this activity, I return to the lodge, searching along the undergrowth path for other species of birds that live at ground level.

In the afternoon after our lunch. We will undertake a walk along the Lago Chica trail, entering the Big Tree trail and leaving along the La Torre trail. On this walk we will pass through several very different types of forests. We will have more chances to see the blue-throated guan, the black-spotted naked-eyed manakin, the pale-footed ovenbird, the flock-tailed manakin, and the fiery-headed manakin. and the cream-necked woodpecker. and many other species.

DAY 04: TAMBOPATA PUERTO MALDONADO.

Today we will have breakfast very early and pack up, transfer to the port where the outboard boat awaits us to navigate the Tambopata River to the Infierno Native Community and from there transfer in our private mobility to the city of Puerto Maldonado / transfer to the Airport / Terrestrial Terminal
