Rainforest Trail Peruvian Amazon  – Full Day  Sandoval Lake 

We will start the tour by picking you up from your hostel and heading to Puerto Capitanía. From there, we will board a motorboat to navigate the majestic Madre de Dios River. During the 50-minute journey, we will observe the diverse Amazonian wildlife along the riverbanks, including turtles, caimans, lizards, and other species.

Upon arrival at the control point of the Lago Sandoval Reserve, we will complete the mandatory registration before starting a 3 km hike through the jungle. This walk will lead us to the beautiful Lake Sandoval, where we will board

a rowing canoe to cross its calm waters and reach our lodge located inside the reserve.

After settling into our rooms, we will enjoy a delicious lunch at the lodge. In the afternoon, we will return to the lake to explore and observe some of the area’s most iconic wildlife:

  • Giant river otters
  • Black caimans
  • Prehistoric birds, such as the unique Shansho
  • Herons, cormorants, and kingfishers

We will then return to the lodge for a short rest. After sunset, we will embark on an exciting night canoe excursion to observe the caimans, nocturnal animals known for their sharp vision in the dark. Our professional naturalist guide

will provide fascinating insights into their behavior and the role they play in the Amazon ecosystem.

At the end of this unforgettable experience, we will hike back to the control point, where our boat will be waiting to

take us back along the Madre de Dios River to Puerto Maldonado. This journey offers a complete immersion into the magic of the Amazon rainforest

AMAZON BIRDS  (JACANA JACANA)

Along the shores of Sandoval lakes. Wattled Jacanas (Jacana jacana) often forage among the floating vegetation. Jacanas have enormously long toes and nails which work on the same principle as that of the snow shoe: their weight is thus widely displaced. Because of their specialized feet, Jacanas are able to easily walk across a cochas numerous floating plants. There, they seek out small aquatic plants and animal life that other birds are unable to reach.

Amazon Trail – Full Day:

After breakfast, we get on the boat to sail for 10 minutes and then change for land transportation riding for two hours until the Capitania Port in Puerto Maldonado. There, we board a motorboat again and navigate down the Madre de Dios River watching animals such as turtles, caimans, lizards and others around its shores. After about half an hour, we get to a checkpoint of the Sandoval Lake Reserve.

We pass a check and start walking for 5 km to reach Sandoval Lake where we take a canoe bringing us to the Sandoval Lake , There, we accommodate ourselves and after lunch we return sailing the lake to see its typical inhabitants – giant river otters, black caimans, a prehistoric bird shansho, herons, cormorants, kingfisher, etc. For dinner, we return to the lodge to later get back to the lake again, this time to undertake an evening caiman observation because caimans are nocturnal animals.

Our professional naturalist Tour Guide shows and explains us about these animals.Afterwards, we get ready for a return way boarding a canoe again to sail over the Sandoval Lake followed by a walk to the checkpoint and from there sailing the Madre de Dios River by a motorboat towards Puerto Maldonado. We pick our baggage up in our office and then, we are transferred either to the airport or the coach terminal.
