Taricaya Trips Project: Release of a New Generation of Taricaya Turtles in the Amazon: A Conservation Project in the Pacaya Samiria Reserve

At Jungle Experiences, our mission is deeply committed to the preservation of wildlife in the Peruvian Amazon. One of the key initiatives we support is the Taricaya Turtle Conservation Project in the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve, a crucial effort to ensure the survival of this iconic species.

The Taricaya turtle faces multiple threats, including illegal egg hunting and natural predators, which have made it a vulnerable species. These challenges, combined with increasing deforestation in the region, put their future at risk. However, our work, in collaboration with local experts and naturalists, is making a real difference in the protection and restoration of their populations.

Since the beginning of our partnership in 2012, we have worked tirelessly with the reserve team to ensure these turtles can thrive in their natural environment.

In 2023, we reached a significant milestone by releasing over 3,000 baby Taricaya turtles into the rivers and lagoons of the Amazon. This effort is not only a victory for the conservation of the Taricaya turtle but also for the health of the Amazon ecosystem, as each turtle released contributes to the biodiversity balance.

The success of this project is due to the constant collaboration and joint effort with the park rangers and naturalists of the Pacaya Samiria National Reserve. Their in-depth knowledge of the land and local species has been crucial to the success of our mission.
