ITINERARY
Inca Trail to Machu Picchu 4 days / 3 nights:
Day 1: Transfer from Cusco to Km 82 Inca Trail Entrance – Wayllabamba
Classic Inca Trail to Machu Picchu -Meals: Lunch, snacks, afternoon tea, and dinner.
Accommodation: Camping facilities.
Distance: 11 kilometers/6.8 miles (Approximately 6 hours of hiking)
Difficulty: Easy/Moderate.
Walking Time: Approximately 6 hours (including a picnic lunch en route)
Walk and Terrain: Hike on open roads, some steep ascents.
Our journey to Machu Picchu via the iconic Inca Trail commences at your hotel. You will be picked up after breakfast (optional) around 6:00 – 6:30 AM. From your hotel, you’ll travel for 2 – 2.5 hours with your guide to our starting point, known as km 82. At this juncture, you must present your Inca Trail permit, original passport, and ISIC card if applicable. The Inca Trail officially begins here, and we’ll embark on a 2-hour hike to Miskay, where we’ll enjoy a delightful lunch. The hike to Miskay is a gentle and picturesque stroll, allowing us to immerse ourselves in the breathtaking flora of the surrounding landscape.
After lunch, we’ll continue our journey with another two-hour hike to Wayllabamba (altitude: 3,000 meters), our camping site for the night. We’ll reach Wayllabamba at around 5:00 PM and savor a delectable dinner prepared by our dedicated professional chef at 6:30 PM. Following dinner, we’ll settle in for the night.
Day 2: Trek from Wayllabamba to Pacaymayuc / Runkuraqay

- Distance: 16 kilometers/10 miles (Approximately 9 hours of hiking time)
- Difficulty: Moderate/Challenging.
On the second day, our guides will rouse us at 5:30 AM with a warm cup of tea, ensuring we start our day on the Inca Trail energetically. Breakfast will be served at 6:00 AM. We’ll commence our first hike of the day at 6:30 AM, which will take approximately 5 hours (covering 7 kilometers) to reach the high point known as Dead Woman Pass (altitude: 4,600 meters). This spot is associated with the female spirit, a legendary figure said to reside on the mountainside.
From here, we’ll embark on a 2-hour descent to our second camping site at Pacamayu (altitude: 3,600 meters). Here, we’ll enjoy a well-deserved lunch after a total of 7 hours of hiking on the Inca Trail. Following lunch, we’ll have time to rest, and dinner will be served around 6:30 PM. Later in the evening, we’ll cozy up under our blankets to stay warm during the chilly night
DAY 3: Trekking Pacaymayuc to Winayhuayna

- Distance: 10kms/6.2mls (5 hours more or less of hiking)

We get up at 6:00 am and breakfast will be served by the chef at 6:30. At 7:00 we will start hiking. This day is a very special and beautiful day where we will pass 3 Inca ruins along the Inca trail. To get to the first Inca ruin Runkqurakay (3.800 m.), we have to hike one hour up; thereafter we have another hour of walking to the second high spot, Runku Pass (4.000 m.). After the second Inca ruin it will get easier, from there we will walk down for 45 m. to Sayacmarka (3580 m.).
After the visit we will have 25 min. to chakicoccha (3.600 m) where we will enjoy our lunch in natural surroundings and incredible landscape. After the lunch we have a one hour hiking to Phuyupatamarka (3.60 m), which is the last hike on the Inca trail of this day. On this place we can find the last Inca construction for today.
From this point we will have an easy two hour walk down to Wiñnahuayna (2.600 m), where we will settle our camp and our chef will make a nice buffet to everyone so we can say goodbye to the chefs and the porters in a very nice way at 6.30. If you still have energy left after the hike, you can visit the archaeological site of Wiñay Huayna, only 5 minutes from our camp spot, a really delightful site on the Inbca trail with a lot of terraces and ruins.
Day 4: Trekking to Winayhuayna, Inti Punku & Machu Picchu Guided Tour

On the final day of our journey, we rise early at 3:30 AM and enjoy a hearty breakfast at 4:00 AM. Following breakfast, our hike begins as we head towards the first checkpoint, which opens at 5:30 AM. From the checkpoint, it’s an hour of hiking to reach the Sun Gate (Inti Punku), a vantage point offering breathtaking views of Machu Picchu and the surrounding mountains. Here, we’ll take a 20-minute break to savor the scenery.
Afterward, it’s a 10-minute descent to the renowned Lost City of the Incas, Machu Picchu. This marks the end of the Inca Trail, and we’ll enter the enchanting realm of Machu Picchu. To leave our bags, there’s a second checkpoint, with a nominal fee of 3 soles for each bag, which is obligatory.
At this point, you’ll also need to present your passport, entrance ticket, and ISIC card if applicable. Subsequently, your guide will lead you on a tour of Machu Picchu, highlighting its significant sites, ruins, and temples. This guided tour will take place from 8:00 AM to 10:00 AM. Following the tour, you’ll have some free time to explore the city, traverse its various pathways, and soak in the breathtaking surroundings.
After immersing yourself in the magnificence of the Inca city, you’ll use your bus ticket to descend to Aguas Calientes. From there, you’ll catch the train back to Cusco via Ollantaytambo. The “expedition train” departs at 6:30 PM and arrives at Ollantaytambo after a 2-hour journey. At Ollantaytambo, a bus will be waiting to transport you back to Cusco. Your journey concludes around 10:30 PM in the night.
