ITINERARY
Amazon Wildlife Native 4 days
First day: Native Circuit and Cultural Exchange with the Curaca.
We’ll head to the Tambopata river pier to board a river transport that will take us downstream along the Madre de Dios river. An impressive 3-hour and 30-minute journey awaits us, where we’ll witness a vast expanse of Amazonian vegetation adorned with multicolored plumage birds along the riverbanks. As we continue, we’ll observe palm leaf
houses of natural inhabitants, including artisanal fishermen, which serve as the primary economic source for the Amazonian city.
Before reaching the native community, we’ll notice its location atop a clay plateau with a red ocher color, standing at approximately eighty meters in height. This vantage point offers a striking view, safe from the threats of floods and winter inundations. Along the way, we’ll savor a delectable Amazonian delicacy paired with a refreshing beverage.
Upon arriving at the native community, we’ll receive a warm welcome from friendly locals who will be astonished by our visit. The community’s isolation from the city prompts us to immediately set up our tents in our two-story cabin, equipped with mesh to ward off potential mosquito bites and basic hygienic facilities.
Following the necessary preparations, the native guide will deliver a safety briefing before we venture into the vibrant jungle, where surprises abound.
Our jungle adventure will lead us deep into its heart, allowing us to identify medicinal and esoteric plants such as antipyretic cane, antibiotic blood grade, antidepressant paca water, and a mix of antipyretic and antipyretic substances. We’ll also encounter exotic fruits like aguaje, unguravi, pijuayo, casharana, chimbillo, huabilla, and more.
We’ll have the privilege of admiring the chestnut tree, a crucial nutritional source from the jungle, as well as the shiringa tree, whose resin yields rubber and fuel. As we proceed on our journey, we’ll encounter various species that
will astonish us amidst the dense jungle, with avian and insect life abundant. The first night will feature a cultural exchange with a pivotal figure, well-equipped to narrate the historical events that shape the community’s reality.
Second day: Native Fishing, Nocturnal Bonfire, and Jungle Tales.
We set out towards the Real Palm River for a day of native fishing that demands skill and expertise. Our native guide will demonstrate the art of bow and arrow fishing, and visitors can actively participate in this activity with the
necessary precautions. We may catch species like palometa, maiden, paco, mota, lisa, chambira, turuchuqui, and more. In the afternoon, we engage in an immersive experience with community members, sharing their customs and
traditions. Observing their behaviors closely, we gain insight into their way of life. As night falls, a nocturnal bonfire lights up, accompanied by the preparation and savoring of the succulent paichipango or patarashca. These regional
delicacies come paired with captivating stories and legends like chuyanchaqui, allay mama, and juanequillo—treasures of our Amazonian homeland.
Third day: Lake Valencia Tour and Community Activities.
At the crack of dawn, we depart for the treasure that is “Lake Valencia,” a repository of priceless Amazonian species. A 20-minute downstream journey along the Madre de Dios River leads us to the mouth of a meandering stream.
Here, we encounter migratory and exotic birds, primates, and more. Upon reaching Lake Valencia, we’re treated to a tranquil, reflective mirror gifted by our immortal Amazonia. Sunrays dance on its transparent waters, revealing the captivating species within. Precious prehistoric shanshos birds, vibrant macaws, serene herons, busy woodpeckers, and striking toucans share this habitat. Among them are primates like wasitas, machin, maquisapa, koto, and pelejo.
This lake is a haven for artisanal fishermen, as it teems with abundant fish such as paiche, sungaro, golden, maiden, maparate, chambira, turuchuqui, sapamama, and yahuarachi. After exploring the lake’s entirety, we disembark and embark on an enriching journey back, observing the diverse flora and fauna, and immersing ourselves in the lush surroundings. Upon returning to the native community in the afternoon, we relive unforgettable moments with its residents. As night descends, we embark on a nocturnal walk, encountering nocturnal butterflies, tarantulas, fireflies, and trees adorned with phosphorescent leaves—creating a truly enchanting atmosphere.
Fourth day: Farewell and Return Journey
On the final day, we bid farewell to the individuals we’ve had the privilege to encounter during our remarkable Amazon adventure. With gratitude and fond memories, we express our goodbyes to each character who has enriched our journey.
As we board our boat, we begin the journey upstream along the Madre de Dios River. Our destination is marked by the river’s waters, guiding us back to Puerto Maldonado. The return journey, filled with the echoes of our experiences and the beauty of the Amazon, will last approximately five hours.
We extend our heartfelt appreciation for your visit, and we hope that the memories and insights gained during these enriching days will remain with you for a lifetime.
