COMPLETE ITINERARY
Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Nature Reserve – Sandoval Lake Tour
Upon arrival at Puerto Maldonado airport or bus terminal, you will be welcomed and transferred to our main office for check-in. You will leave your main luggage there and take only what is necessary for the tour.
We will then travel toward Sandoval Lake, navigating along the Alto Madre de Dios River. After registering at the Tambopata National Reserve control point, we will begin a 3 km (1.5-hour) walk through dense rainforest to a small dock, where a rowboat will take us through a narrow channel to Sandoval Lake.
Upon arrival, we will paddle for approximately one hour to reach our Amazon lodge. After lunch, we will explore the lake to observe giant river otters, hoatzins, birds, monkeys, and other endemic wildlife.
At night, using flashlights, we will return to the canoe to search for black caimans, nocturnal birds, and monkeys hunting insects. Dinner and overnight stay in private rooms.
Day 2: Giant River Otters – Flora and Fauna of Sandoval Lake
We will wake up to the sounds of the jungle and enjoy a nutritious breakfast. Afterwards, we will observe the family of giant river otters that inhabits the lake.
The reserve is home to more than 65 bird species, including hoatzins, cormorants, herons, kingfishers, and osprey, as well as turtles, caimans, and monkeys that feed on the lake’s palm trees.
After lunch, we will explore pristine rainforest in search of mammals such as peccaries and tapirs, as well as reptiles, toucans, and more. We will visit majestic Brazil nut trees and learn about medicinal plants such as ayahuasca, chacruna, ajo sacha, and chuchuhuasi.
In the afternoon, we will enjoy a fun activity: swinging on strong jungle lianas in true Tarzan style.
After dinner, we will take a guided night walk to spot species active after dark. Overnight at the lodge.
Day 3: Palm Clay Lick – Canoe Ride – Canopy Tower – Zipline
Very early in the morning, we will witness a spectacular sunrise. After breakfast, we will cross the lake by canoe to the Palm Clay Lick, where parrots and macaws gather to feed on mineral-rich palm fruits.
We will then walk through primary rainforest, surrounded by giant trees, lianas, and great ecological diversity. Our guide will explain the forest layers and the species that inhabit each level.
After lunch and a refreshing swim in the lake, we will navigate toward the Madre de Dios River and continue by boat to our next lodge.
We will enjoy the exciting Amazon zipline experience, followed by a night walk to search for active wildlife. Dinner and overnight stay.
Day 4: Cachuela Clay Lick – Return to Puerto Maldonado – Transfer to Cusco or Lima
Before dawn, we will navigate to the Cachuela Clay Lick, where you will witness one of the most colorful natural spectacles of the Amazon: parrots, parakeets, and macaws gathering to feed on mineral-rich clay.
We will then return to Puerto Maldonado, collect our luggage, and transfer you to the airport or bus terminal. End of the tour.

Sandoval Lake 4 days: Lake Sandoval is located within the Tambo Pata National Reserve 10 km from the city of Puerto Maldonado then to Puerto Capitana where you will take a boat outboard 30 minutes downstream to the entrance of the Lake Reserve Sandoval
from there a 3-kilometer hike into the deep jungle then you will arrive at a small port where you will take a canoe to paddle for 1 hour, then we will arrive at our hostel that is located inside the Sandoval lakes reserve .
This lake is formed by a curve at 3 Kilometer from the Madre de Dios River and is one of the most beautiful lakes in the Peruvian Amazon, exceptional for observing a great diversity of flora and fauna with great natural
beauty as a great ichthyological richness and surrounded of extensive aguajales The same that is protected by Peruvian law.
