 Excursions Day 1: Lima/Cusco to Puerto Maldonado – Embarking on the Amazon Explorer Adventure

Your journey into the heart of the Amazon Explorer begins today as you take a flight from Lima or Cusco to Puerto Maldonado. Upon arrival, I will be waiting at the airport or land terminal to greet you. Our first destination is the main office, where you can register and possibly leave heavy backpacks. Alternatively, you can choose to take them with you to the Lodge.

From the office, we will proceed to the bustling Tambopata main port. This marks the start of an exciting chapter in your adventure as we board an outboard boat, which will carry us upstream along the Tambopata River toward our lodge.

During this river journey, keep an eye out for the fascinating array of species that frequent the riverbanks. The journey includes a box-lunch to keep you energized for the day’s exploration. After arriving at the lodge, you will receive a refreshing drink and an introduction to our dedicated staff. We will assign your private rooms, providing a comfortable sanctuary in the heart of the jungle.

As the afternoon sun begins to wane, it’s time to embark on a walk through the lush “terra firme” tropical forest.

This unique environment is dominated by grand Brazil nut trees, offering a haven for an array of wildlife. Stay attuned to your senses as we venture along the trails, encountering mammals such as tamarinds, capuchin monkeys, agoutis, and more. The forest comes alive with vibrant blue morpho butterflies, trogons, toucans, and a symphony of other bird species.

Following a satisfying dinner, the adventure continues into the night with a captivating night walk. This nocturnal exploration unveils a different world as we encounter insects, spiders, toads, frogs, and captivating sights of the jungle after dark. With a touch of luck, we might even glimpse a species of nocturnal monkey or larger wild creatures that venture out under the moonlight. After the night’s activities, you will retire to your private room, ready to rejuvenate for the exciting days ahead in this incredible tropical haven.

Excursions Day 2:

Discovering Amazonia Tambopata at Condenado Lake to Amazon Explorer

As a new day dawns, we eagerly rise early to savor a delectable breakfast that prepares us for another day of remarkable exploration. Our adventure begins by immersing ourselves in the depths of the virgin jungle, embarking on a hike along lesser-known trails that promise hidden treasures. Accompanied by your knowledgeable guide, you will once again board the motorized canoe. This short journey leads to the next trailhead, marking the start of a captivating morning of discovery both on foot and by canoe.

Venturing onto the trail, you will sense the anticipation in the air as the wonders of Amazonia beckon. The canoe ride across Condemned Lake unveils a realm teeming with avian life and vibrant aquatic wonders. Your senses will come alive as you bear witness to the family of giant river otters that grace the lake’s environs. Turtles, small alligators, and an array of fishing birds dot the landscape. The prehistoric charm of rufescent tiger herons, the elegance of great egrets, and the colorful baleen jacanas contribute to the rich tapestry of life. And of course, the quirky and fascinating hoatzin, often dubbed the “stinky turkey,” adds a touch of unique charm. Remember to have your hat and sunscreen ready, as minimal shade is available on the water.

After this exhilarating activity, we return to the lodge for a rejuvenating lunch that refuels body and spirit.

The afternoon ushers in yet another chance for exploration, inviting us to delve once more into the forest that envelops the lodge. Whether you opt to explore alongside your guide or blaze your own trail, the mysteries of the rainforest await your discovery. Subsequently, indulge in relaxation by immersing yourself in the cool, crystal-clear stream that flows near the lodge. This tranquil interlude sets the stage for a rendezvous with giants – trees that have stood the test of time for over six centuries. Embrace your inner Tarzan as you ascend these grand arboreal wonders using lianas, granting you a unique perspective of the jungle canopy.

Within these primary forests lies a treasure trove of delights, including arboreal orchids and a diverse array of native medicinal plants that indigenous cultures have harnessed for centuries due to their healing properties.

As twilight descends, dinner awaits, followed by an enthralling night activity. Once again, we set out on a motorized canoe expedition along the Tambopata River, this time in pursuit of alligators and other elusive nocturnal inhabitants. This final adventure of the day unveils the mysteries of the rainforest under the cover of darkness, guided by your experienced naturalist guide.

With the night’s activities concluded, you will return to the lodge, enveloped by the symphony of Amazonia’s nightlife, ready to rest and recharge for the anticipation of tomorrow’s discoveries.

Excursions Day 3:

Return Journey to Puerto Maldonado with Amazon Explorer

As the sun ushers in a new day, we begin with a satisfying breakfast, ready to embark on the journey back to the city of Puerto Maldonado. The timing of our return is thoughtfully coordinated to align with the group’s flight schedules, ensuring a seamless transition.

In the morning hours, a unique opportunity arises to witness the vibrant wildlife in action, as the jungle awakens to the day’s activities. The distinctive calls of howler monkeys resonate through the air, adding to the captivating symphony of Amazonia’s dawn chorus.

Upon our return to Puerto Maldonado, your dedicated guide will be by your side to facilitate a smooth transition. They will assist you in navigating the process, ensuring you’re well-prepared for your departure. From guiding you through check-in procedures to transferring you to the airport, your guide will provide valuable support every step of the way.

As you bid farewell to this enchanting rainforest realm, you’ll carry with you the memories of your Amazon Explorer adventure – encounters with unique wildlife, immersive explorations,

• Mosquito repellent (DEET 35 recommended as a MINIMUM!!),

Amazonia Tambopata   Camdamo .

 Madre de Dios, Peru is a large department (or state) in the wild, southeastern part of the country. Its name means “Mother of God” and is a common Spanish synonym for “the Virgin Mary”. The rather generic name given to the

Madre de Dios department in Amazon Tambopata is a reflection of how little was known about the region during the Spanish colonial era. Whereas some departments were assigned the same name used by the Incans, neither Incan  people nor Spanish colonists settled in the southeastern amazon lowlands so the department was simply named in 

honor of one of the most revered figures in Roman Catholicism (the principle religion of the Spanish colonists).  Explorer Tambopata Reserve in a sense, this name befit a wild, untamed wilderness of dense   rainforests explore,

trackless swamps, and meandering rivers flanked by unforgiving jungle as it was believed that outsiders only  survived in such a place by the grace of God. In modern times, the Madre de Dios department has become much

more accessible while still retaining its wild character with reserve tambopata and sandoval lake lodge. Tambopata huge tracts of unbroken rainforest are protected in national parks, reserves, and by several  rainforest lodges. The 

lack of roads and low population also keeps many parts of Madre de Dios intact and devoid of development. Nevertheless, a recently constructed road that connects routes to the Pacific with routes to the Atlantic Ocean has brought more colonists to the region along with associated deforestation, hunting, and mining activities that could pose a threat to the rainforests of Madre de Dios .

The Tambopata National Reserve:

The Tambo Pata National Reserve, is known as the Tambo Pata del Candamo Reserved Zone, which is a natural area of Peru that is highly protected. Which is located in the department of Madre de Dios.
