Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Wasai Tambopata Lodge – Night Walk

Welcome to the Peruvian Amazon : Your adventure begins with a welcome at Puerto Maldonado Airport and a transfer to Wasaí Maldonado Ecolodge, where you’ll be offered a refreshing tropical juice and an introduction to the experiences awaiting you on your trip.

Next, we’ll set off for Wasai Tambopata Lodge, traveling approximately 64 kilometers along paved and gravel roads. Along the way, you’ll see small rural properties, tropical vegetation, and stretches of Amazon rainforest that reveal the natural beauty of this region of Peru.

Cruise along the Tambopata River
When we arrive at the port of Filadelfia, we’ll board a motorboat for an approximately 20-minute journey along the Tambopata River to the lodge.

Keep your eyes open during the ride: the riverbanks offer opportunities to spot tropical birds and, with a little luck, capybaras, caimans, and other wild animals in their natural habitat.

A box lunch will be provided during the journey, depending on the service arrangements.

Arrival at the lodge and nighttime rainforest exploration
At Wasai Tambopata Lodge, you’ll be welcomed and shown to your accommodations. After a short rest, we’ll get ready for a guided night walk along the rainforest trails.

As night falls, the forest reveals a different world. Listen to the frogs calling, discover the sounds of insects, and look for small nocturnal animals. If you’re lucky, you may also spot mammals emerging to forage after sunset.

The day ends with dinner at the lodge, surrounded by the natural sounds of the Amazon.

Day 2: Chuncho Clay Lick – Ethnobotanical Walk – Nighttime Caiman Search

Sunrise at the Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick : Before sunrise, we’ll board a boat for an approximately 90-minute journey along the Tambopata River to the famous Chuncho Macaw Clay Lick, located within Tambopata National Reserve.

The sunrise journey is a special experience for nature lovers. As we travel, you’ll be able to admire mist rising over the river, tropical forest landscapes, and birds beginning their day at first light.

A spectacle of color and sound in the Amazon
If weather and natural conditions are favorable, you’ll have the chance to witness one of the most impressive wildlife spectacles in the Amazon: parrots and macaws of different species gathering on the clay banks.

These birds consume clay as part of their natural behavior, creating a remarkable display of color, flight, and calls in the heart of the forest.

While we wait, we’ll have breakfast at the viewing area, taking care to preserve the peace of the surroundings and avoid disturbing the birds.

Return to the lodge and time to relax
We’ll begin the return to Wasai Tambopata Lodge in the mid-morning, passing once more through the beautiful landscapes of Tambopata National Reserve.

During the boat ride, we’ll keep an eye on the riverbanks in hopes of spotting monkeys, capybaras, tapirs, and other wildlife. Wildlife sightings depend on local conditions and cannot be guaranteed.

When we reach the lodge, you can rest in a hammock, enjoy the scenery, or relax during your free time in this natural setting.

Optional activities: Kayaking and zip-lining are subject to availability and cost an additional US$35 per passenger, depending on the service selected.

Ethnobotanical walk: Discover the secrets of Amazonian plants
In the afternoon, we’ll take a guided walk along forest trails to learn about the remarkable diversity of plants and trees in Tambopata.

You’ll learn about the traditional uses of various medicinal plants, the importance of giant trees, and the relationships between species in the Amazon ecosystem.

After the excursion, we’ll return to the lodge for dinner and a well-earned rest after a day full of discoveries.

Day 3: Amazonian Sunrise – Return to Puerto Maldonado

Farewell to the Tambopata rainforest : We’ll begin our final day with breakfast at the lodge and one last opportunity to enjoy the peaceful surroundings of the Peruvian Amazon.

Afterward, we’ll begin the return journey to Puerto Maldonado, following the same route as on the way there and combining road transportation and river travel according to the service arrangements.

Once we arrive in the city, and depending on your flight schedule, you can enjoy the facilities at Wasaí Puerto Maldonado Hotel, relax by the pool, have a drink at the bar, or take in the views.

You can also take a walk through downtown Puerto Maldonado and visit the main square, which is a short distance from the hotel, to buy souvenirs from your trip.
