Full-Day Sandoval Lake Tour
The tour begins at approximately 9:00 a.m., with pickup from your hotel or the bus terminal in Puerto Maldonado. Before departing, you can leave your heavy luggage at our office.
We will then head to the port, where we will board a boat and navigate for approximately 50 minutes along the Madre de Dios River, enjoying the scenery and observing wildlife along the riverbanks.
Upon reaching the entrance to the Tambopata National Reserve, we will begin an approximately 3-kilometer hike through primary rainforest. Along the way, our guide will explain the Amazon’s flora, fauna, and conservation efforts. Tambopata National Reserve
We will then arrive at a small port, where we will switch from the motorized boat to a paddle canoe. We will quietly navigate through the waterways until reaching Sandoval Lake, enjoying its beautiful scenery while looking for different animal species in their natural habitat.
Wildlife
During the exploration, we may observe:
Taricaya turtles and charapita turtles.
Different species of monkeys.
Herons and aquatic birds.
Hoatzins, parrots, and other tropical birds.
And, with a little luck, families of giant river otters, also known locally as lobos de río.

Lunch and Return
After exploring the lake, we will enjoy a traditional Amazonian lunch and have some time to relax and take photographs.
In the afternoon, we will begin our return journey by canoe and on foot until reaching the boarding point. We will then navigate back along the Madre de Dios River toward Puerto Maldonado.
Finally, we will collect your luggage from our office and transfer you to your hotel or the bus terminal.
