Amazing Trip – Sandoval Lodge 4 days
TOURS Day 1: Puerto Maldonado – Amazing Sandoval – lake Lodge
Amazing Trip – Sandoval Lodge -We will pick you up at the bus terminal/airport by the guide who will then take you to our office for the tour, Amazon Expedition Sandoval Lodge. Upon arrival, you will register and leave your large luggage at the office, carrying only a backpack for your personal items. Then, we will transport you to a local port to board a boat and navigate the Madre de Dios River. Along the way, we will observe various species of mammals, birds, turtles, and caimans. Later, we will reach the control post of the Sandoval Lake Reserve and begin a 5 km hike (approx. 2 hours) to the Sandoval Lodge, near Lake Sandoval. The lodge has private bathrooms and is within the Tambopata National Reserve, ensuring more wildlife sightings and contact with nature. After settling in, we will visit Lake Sandoval by canoe, where you can spot giant otters, black caimans, birds such as the hoatzin, herons, and kingfishers. We will return to the lodge for dinner and then take a night canoe excursion with flashlights to observe caimans. We will show and explain before returning to the comfortable lodge next to Lake Sandoval.
TOURS Day 2: Giant Otters – Amazing Trip – Sandoval Lake Lodge .
Today we need to wake up early in the morning to have the opportunity to witness the sunrise and have an encounter with the family of giant otters. This is a common strategy in ecotourism, as many wildlife species are more active during the early hours of the day. In addition to the giant otters, Lake Sandoval offers a variety of wildlife, including resident and aquatic birds that feed on fish in the lake. There is also mention of a canoe activity to observe wildlife up close and take photographs. The description continues with a jungle walk to explore the diversity of flora and fauna in the region. Different types of animals are mentioned, such as mammals, reptiles, birds, monkeys, peccaries, tapirs, and toucans. The walk also includes information about medicinal plants and other educational aspects provided by an expert guide. The experience culminates with a night walk to explore nocturnal wildlife in the region, which can be an exciting experience for visitors interested in observing nocturnal animals.
TOURS Day 3: Discovering Palm Clay Licks
Another opportunity awaits us today as we head towards the surroundings of Lake Sandoval. Here, a large number of diverse palm trees grow in the water, creating a swampy area. This place is known as Macaw Palm Clay Lick and attracts several species of macaws and other parrots, which feed on the clay of its palms. This clay contains sodium, calcium, potassium, and other minerals that aid in digestion. Afterwards, we return to the lodge to enjoy a well-deserved breakfast. Later, we embark on a journey to observe the amazing flora and fauna of the Sandoval Lake Reserve. We will be able to admire monkeys, deer, wild boars, tapirs, and even spectacled bears, to name just a few. For lunch, we return to the lodge. Then, they provide us with free time to rest or enjoy a refreshing swim in Lake Sandoval (don’t worry, there are no piranhas or other dangerous animals during the day). Afterwards, we embark on a canoe to cross the lake and reach a point from where we can better appreciate a beautiful sunset over the waters. At 8 o’clock in the evening, we return to the lodge for dinner, while we await the moonlight, a suitable moment to spot caimans once again. Another night of sleep at the Sandoval Lake Lodge awaits us.
TOURS Day 4: Sandoval Lake Reserve Return to Puerto Maldonado
After breakfast, we will first board a canoe to navigate Lake Sandoval and then walk back to the control point, from where we will continue navigating the Madre de Dios River by boat to Puerto Maldonado.

Sandoval Lake Lodge
Located in the Tambopata National Reserve, Sandoval Lake Lodge stands upon what many tropical rainforest specialists consider Peru’s most attractive lake, providing access to one of the most biologically diverse areas on the planet.
Sandoval Lake Lodge is situated on Lake Sandoval, considered one of the most beautiful in the Peruvian Amazon. This prime location allows you to visit Lake Sandoval early in the morning or in the afternoon when wildlife is most active. No other lodge in Tambopata-Madidi is located on a lake in the jungle. Sandoval Lake Lodge features 25 double rooms with private bathrooms, hot water, ventilation, and electricity.
the Amazonia Rainforest Peru ,
At night, the large black caiman, reaching up to 4 to 5 m (15 feet), can be seen in our spotlights. These huge nocturnal predators are always ready for additional bites (needless to say, we do not swim in the lake at night). The black caiman was previously hunted to the brink of extinction for its skins. Elsewhere, it is very rare to find individuals as large as those you will see at Sandoval Lake Lodge.
Tropical Forests
The jungle is an amazing journey at night, from gusts of wind moving the treetops to howler monkeys frolicking among the vegetation. In the distance, we can unmistakably hear the rhythmic sounds of drums. A party must be taking place in the community: the drum and the bamboo flute are the traditional musical instruments of the jungle. The heat in this area is a nightmare for people who are not used to sleeping in hammocks, and sometimes the humidity is very high as well. We must stay still just to breathe. Suddenly, it starts to rain. A typical rain of the Amazon Region falls violently on its vegetation, making a deafening noise. In the river, the caimans are awake. A fierce struggle has begun. We can hear the tremendous clashes of their tails in the water, making sleep difficult, but it is an incredible experience. Perhaps we can sleep for a while and at dawn, when the sounds of countless bird species welcome a new day. Each species has its characteristic song, especially the macaws perched on every tree or crossing the river in pairs with Amazing Trip to Sandoval Lake Lodge.
Life in the Amazing Amazon Trip
has a wealth of sounds. It is beautiful even in periods of absolute silence, when we can enjoy the beautiful colors highlighted by daylight. Some of these colors belong to hundreds of butterflies swirling around a trunk full of turtles alternately bathing and sunbathing. The rest of these bright colors belong to macaws, toucans, flowers blooming on the banks, and nymphs. The intense blue of the sky reflected in rivers and lakes and the greenish tones of biodiversity are also part of that great range of colors. The true heart of an Amazing Amazon Trip can be found in the Peruvian Amazon region, which harbors countless different forms of life. This consists of intense warm and humid weather.
Amazon Tour
As you venture into the depths of the jungle, an unparalleled abundance of vibrant birdlife will greet you. Witness the splendor of seven different species of brightly colored birds, including parrots, parakeets, and majestic macaws. The journey unveils the opportunity to encounter majestic creatures of considerable size, such as the tapir, capybara, sloth, wild boar, and even the elusive jaguar, the true monarch of the wild.
One of the most captivating aspects of this adventure is the macaws’ clay lick, a spectacle along the Tambopata River. Observe the extraordinary sight of these magnificent birds and other creatures congregating on the massive clay walls, both to feed and to engage in the unique practice of licking the clay
