Amazon Trips Native Community .Nestled within the protective embrace of the Tambopata National Reserve, on the serene banks of the Madre de Dios River, lies the enchanting Ese Eja Palma Real community. A mere 40 kilometers away from the vibrant city of Puerto Maldonado, this is where the allure of authenticity seamlessly blends with the thrill of adventure.

Palma Real Community: An Encounter with the Guardians of the Forest

Hidden among the dense vegetation of the Amazon rainforest, on the banks of the majestic Madre de Dios River, lies the Palma Real Community, one of the last living bastions of the ancestral Ese Eja people. This half-day experience transports us to the heart of their ancestral lands, where nature and tradition coexist in perfect harmony.

Known as «the guardians of the forest,» the Ese Eja have inhabited the Amazon for centuries. Their deep knowledge of the rainforest is passed down from generation to generation through oral tradition, community work, and sustainable practices that reflect their intimate relationship with the environment.

During the visit, we will be welcomed by community members, who will guide us through their daily lives: from traditional hunting and fishing techniques to the sustainable agriculture that sustains their food and local economy. This is a unique opportunity to delve into a culture that lives in balance with the Amazonian ecosystem.

Art and crafts are central to the Ese Eja identity. Using natural materials such as seeds, fibers, and wood, they create unique pieces full of symbolism and meaning. During the tour, we will be able to observe these creations up close, understand their craftsmanship, and appreciate the respect with which they use the jungle’s resources.

Another pillar of their ancestral wisdom is their knowledge of medicinal plants, a living heritage perfected over centuries. Walking through the community and its surroundings, we will learn about the healing uses of different species and how the jungle is, for them, both home and pharmacy.

This is not just a cultural visit; it is a truly transformative encounter. By sharing moments with the Ese Eja, we will understand their deep respect for nature, their ancient wisdom, and the importance of preserving cultures that teach us another way of inhabiting the world.

As we bid farewell to Palma Real, we will take with us much more than memories: we will take with us a life lesson. Deep in the Amazon, a way of life still flourishes that honors the past and protects the future. And having experienced it is, in itself, a privilege.

Dive into the captivating world of Amazon Trips Native Community, where an authentic adventure awaits. Our journey commences as we head towards the Tambopata River pier, preparing to board the river transport. This scenic voyage unfolds over an impressive 3 hours and 30 minutes, offering us ample time to soak in the breathtaking Amazonian landscape. Along the riverbanks, a myriad of multicolored feathered birds grace us with their presence, creating a picturesque tableau. As we venture downstream, we’ll come across palm leaf houses inhabited by native residents, primarily artisanal fishermen, who depend on the river as their main source of economic sustenance in this Amazonian city.

Approaching the native community, you’ll observe it perched atop a plateau with clayey, reddish-ocher soil, standing at an altitude of approximately eighty meters. This elevated position provides a commanding view, shielding the community from the perils of rising waters and floods during the winter season. En route, we’ll indulge in a delectable Amazonian delicacy, complemented by a delightful beverage.

Upon reaching the native community, a warm and cordial welcome awaits from the friendly locals.

Your presence will undoubtedly be a source of wonder, as this community remains secluded from city life. Without delay, we’ll set up our tents within a two-story cabin, thoughtfully equipped with mosquito-proof mesh for your comfort. Basic sanitary facilities are readily available. Before embarking on our jungle expedition, our native guide will conduct a safety briefing, ensuring we’re well-prepared for the myriad surprises that await in the living jungle.

Our jungle adventure will involve delving deep into its heart, where we’ll identify medicinal and esoteric plants such as fever cane, antibiotic dragon’s blood, anti-inflammatory paca water, aphrodisiac ayahuasca, and exotic fruits like aguaje, unguravi, pijuayo, casharana, chimbillo, huabilla, among others. We’ll also have the privilege of encountering the castaño tree, a vital source of sustenance from the rainforest, and the shiringa tree, which yields rubber resin used as fuel. Continuing our journey, the lushness of the jungle will reveal some astonishing species, with birds and insects enveloping us.

As night falls on the first day, we’ll engage in a cultural exchange with a prominent figure who possesses the qualities required to recount the historical events that define the community’s reality.

The evening sets the stage for a mesmerizing bonfire, where we’ll prepare and relish the delectable paichipango or patarashca, a regional delicacy.
