Tour Day 1: Puerto Maldonado to Sandoval Lake Reserve .

Tours Day 4: Tambopata Expedition Macaw Clay Lick Chuncho to Puerto Maldonado

TAMBOPATA EXPEDITION  4 DAYS .

Expeditions Day 1:  Puerto Maldonado to Sandoval Lake  Reserve  .

Reception and transfer by our ecotourism guide at the Puerto Maldonado Airport for rthe  tour tambopata expedition, then we will transfer to our main office in the city of Puerto Maldonado where you can leave your things and bring the necessary things with you for the Sandoval lake reserve tour.

There we will go to port where our motor boat awaits us. From there we will make our trip along the Madre de Dios River approximately 45 minutes until we reach the control post of the Sandoval del Tambopata Lake Reserve where we will register. From there we will start the walk of 1 hour 30 minutes making stops and observe different species such as plants, birds, insects, butterflies and some species of monkeys.

We will arrive at a small port where we will board a canoe in a narrow canal surrounded by forest, that leads to the open waters of the.

Lake Sandoval Expeditions , which allows us to see an excellent scenic beauty between the water and the palm trees and large aguajales we hear strange noises of other animals that surprise us with their presence, toads, migratory birds as we cross the lake we will arrive to our hostel that is located 4 minutes from the port of Sandoval Lake Tambopata.

Accommodation in our private room with shower and bath after a short rest we will ex´peditions  the flora and fauna observed by some species that live in their natural habitat. After dinner we will do a night walk expeditions Equipped with a lantern or head lamp, we will make a night walk in the forest to look for the nocturnal monkey (Musmuqui), frogs, snakes and insects that are active during the night long walk  in amazonia expeditions. Expeditions Day 2:   Tambopata Exploring Sandoval Lake   –  Exploring  by Canoe  Flora and  Fauna .

After our breakfast at dawn we board our boat to head in search of the so precious otters and giant otters from ancestors years there is a large family with several individuals who have lost their fear of man and can appreciate  them very closely and let us delight with his presence ensuring good photographic views, the same way our way we can see the species of macaws (Aras macaws) breast multicolored yellow and red giving a special colorful trees  and palms in rainforest expeditions. 

We can also see the Maracanas (Arasevera) and maracanás of aguajal (manilata orthopsitaca) overflying the airspace, we see the mantle of butterflies multicolored accompanying us on  our journey, back to the lodge to be approved by the tourist you can bathe in a special area of the lake and observe the diversity of palm trees forming a landscaped oasis.

After lunch we will walk through the lush jungle and thus to appreciate the primary forest with its ancient  trees like Shihuahuacos, kapok, and renacos which are the emerging trees of the forest which are home to all kinds of mammals this blanket of trees it is rich in leaves and fruits that are havens for food and rest of animals  and birds, to have luck you can see a jaguar lurking their prey equally see some birds like parrots and  partridges pose for eat fruit, also we see hallucinogenic plants like ayahuasca and other plants used for healing.

On our return to the lodge we observe the oasis produced by the sunshine for its concealment in its wake will see such famous black caiman which are currently very rare and attractive while blending with the brightness of   sandoval lake  trips expeditions  .So same observe other animals night as reptiles and birds that go down to the lake shore in search of water. Expeditions Day 3:  Tambopata Macaw Clay Lick – Rainforest  expedition .

After our breakfast we will take a boat to the city of Puerto Maldonado then we will go to our main office after that we will start at 8:30 a.m. Where we will take our private transport for 2 hours to the port.

Tambopata where our boat and motorist will be waiting for us to continue our trip Expediitons to Tambopata River for 50 minutes where we will observe different species such as birds, turtles, capybaras, white alligators ect if we have the opportunity to see the king of the jungle (Jaguar) who are taking the sun or tired on the beaches then we will arrive at our lodge “TAMBOPATA LODGE INN” we will welcome you with typical aphrodisiac soft drink of the amazonia accommodation in your

respective room .lunch In the afternoon we will take a walk in the primary forest expeditions  full of millenary trees that coexist with many creatures like, insects, spiders, horribles, toads , butterflies, monkeys and some mammals ect After dinner we will do a nocturnal activity with our lanterns to observe alligators, capybaras and maybe some feline that is near the river at night that they naturally hunt at night.

After this activity return to our hostel to rest in their respective room .

Tours Day 4:  Tambopata expedition  Macaw Clay Lick Chuncho  to Puerto maldonado .

We will wake up around 4:00am, we will get a tea or cofee to get some energy and we will take our boat up the Tambopata for 1 hour. Crossing the check point. We will have all the sunrise just for us in the boat, and we will have really good chances to spot capybaras whish is the largest roudent worldwide, tapir and you could even see the most beautiful feline in south America

The Jaguar” many of our clients are witneses with photographics evidences of encounters with these beautiful mammal. I like to say it, we have a 20 % of probabilities to see one of these guys by the river bank.

Getting to our destination, we will take a seat the closest we can and we will get a show at the clay lick,

hundreds of parrots and dozens of macaws Green, red, blue

and yellow birds all around us, flying and making loud noises, it will be spectacular this behavior of this birds. We will explain you the reason why every day the whole year around this birds go to the Cliff to eat clay. We will spend from 6:30 am to 11:00 am approx.

Our breakfast will be in front of the clay lick activity.

At the end of this activity, in our way down river to the lodge we will make a short stop in the check point to learn more about the small museum that there is here, after this we will continue toward our lodge to get an unforgettable swimming in the stream or may be in the Tambopata River expediitons. – tambopata tours.

We will get our lunch, may be a short rest in the hammock area ,and then we can take our boat for 30 minutes down river and we will start our way back to Puerto Maldonado, 2 hours by road

SHORT DESCRIPTIONS  OF THE EXPEDITION  RESSERVE – TAMBOPATA AREA

Tambopata is in Madre de Dios, a Department in south-east Peru. In terms of biological diversity, the forests of Madre de Dios are the richest in the world. The Tambopata Reserved Zone (TRZ) is a very small area (5,500  hectares) within this rainforest espeditions.

  Research over the last 16 years in the TRZ has shown that it contains more species of birds (587), butterflies (1,230) and many other animal groups them any other location of its size on Earth in jungle expeditions.

Over 150 types of tree have been found in a 100 ‘square meter ‘ area tambopata.  Madre de Dios encompasses one ‘of the World Centers of Plant Diversity identified With results such as these, it is  understandable that the Department capital of Puerto Maldonado is known as “the biological capital of the world”. In 1990, the Ministry of Agriculture in Lima  declared that an area of 1,479,000 hectares, including the existing

Tambopata Reserved Zone,

would become protected, as the Tambopata- Candamo Reserved Zone (TCRZ). This area, which also adjoins the Rio Heath inside to  amazon expeditions National Sanctuary, is only slightly smaller  than the Manu National Park and roughly the size of East Anglia, in the UK. –

The area has been designated in recognition of its undisturbed populations of wild expeditions flora and fauna wildlife expeditions, and its  numerous features of major cultural and scientific importance.

Potentially, much of the new Reserved Area contains a  diversity of species in mazonia tambopata . However, the

Lodge Rainforest Expeditions Tambopata Chuncho

It is one of the impressive lodges of Lodge Rainforest Expeditions on the banks of the Tambopata Reserve River, which has comfortable rooms, dining room, spa rooms, and the work of 26 Peruvian enthusiasts, of whom seven belong to the surrounding native communities  in tambopata.

Rainforest Expeditions tambopata  tells us about the excellent welcome that has had the soft adventure routes, as she calls it, and that every time foreign tourists prefer to take a kayak trip on the Tambopata River expeditions, others choose to climb to a chestnut tree Of 38 meters, and there are those who choose to ride a bicycle for a specially conditioned gauge. All this is strengthened by sightings of birds and sublime sunrises and sunsets in the amazon tambopata  expeditions.

The Amazon of Peru called Tambopata Expedition is the place of thousands of species that inhabit as the best known

birds the Macaw that is in extinction in South America, they found their place to live and many creatures share this nature tambopata  paradise area that is highly protected tambopata. 

Tambopata Expedition Reserve  Methods .

Clay lick use data was collected from February 2000 to November 2002. Observers arrived before sunrise and recorded the number of birds on the lick every 5 minutes. On 606 mornings the observers remained until the early  morning rush of activity ended (7:00– 7:30 AM), while on 280 days the observers remained until the late afternoon (4:30 PM or later) amazon expeditions.

Additional data from 2003 have been collected and are  currently being processed. Over 1000 bird censuses were conducted in the afternoons from January – December 2003 in the areas surrounding TRC. Censuses lasted 10  minutes each and were conducted at 20 different points in  the forest expeditions.

They were conducted in the afternoon at the time of minimum lick use so that birds moving to and from the clay lick would not unduly influence the counts of  birds in the forest. Scarlet macaw nests and  chick growth were monitored in the forests around 

Expedition reserve – Research Center

from November 1999 to March 2003. In total 26 nests were monitored and 24 chicks weighed and measured from hatching to fledging.

Crop samples were taken from Scarlet Macaw chicks from December 2003 – February 2004 following the protocol outlined by (Enkerlin-Hoeflich et al. 1999).  A total of 29 samples were taken from chicks ranging in age  from 20 to 80 days. Results and Discussion  and I recorded 16 species of parrots, two guans and three pigeons on the clay lick during data collection, including: 

Green-winged, Scarlet, Blue and gold, Severe, Red-bellied and Blue- headed Macaws; Mealy, Yellow-crowned, Orange-cheeked (Barraband’s) Parrots; Blue-headed Pionus; White-bellied Caique; White-eyed and Dusky Conures; Amazonian and Dusky-billed Parrotlet; and Cobalt-winged Parakeet.

This includes ALL the common parrot species at the site. On some days over 1,300 parrots were seen arriving at in the area of the lick. In total we logged over 300,000 records of parrots using the lick making this one of the world’s largest data sets on wild parrots.

Tambopata expedition Rainforest .

Lick use showed two marked seasons: a high season from August through January and a low season from February through July. These seasons did not match up with the changes from wet season to dry season.

Instead I found that the birds’ lick use closely paralleled the abundance of birds in the forest recorded during the afternoon parrot censuses. In fact it looks like low lick use season may be due in part to the fact that many of the parrots  “migrate” away from the area nature rainforest expeditions.

The reason why the birds leave is unknown, but data from nearby Manu National Park suggest that the period of low lick use and parrot migration away from the area  corresponds with a period of very low fruit availability  (Terborgh 1983). This suggests that the birds may be leaving the area due to a general lack of food. To date I do not know where the parrots go upon departure.The high

season of lick use

is apparently due to a mixture of factors.  The birds return to the area probably due to an increase in the food supply or in anticipation of breeding or both. However there are marked differences among  species in their peak month of lick use:

Blue-headed Pionus (Pionus  menstruus) peak in July while the three large macaws peak in January. Ten of the twelve species for which we have breeding data show their strongest peak in  lick use during the breeding season. This suggests that  some physiological need during the breeding season is driving the birds to increase their consumption of soil.

I have two hypotheses for the association between lick use  and breeding that I will discuss here tambopata:

Macaw Clay Lick Center – Tambopata Expedition

1. Clay lick use increases during breeding because females need additional calcium to make the eggs.
2. Clay lick use increased during breeding because the adults need to feed clay to the chicks.The data on the timing  of breeding and clay lick use by Scarlet Macaws shows that the peak in lick use does not occur in November at the time of egg laying, thus making it unlikely that the birds are using the lick as a source of calcium. Instead lick use spikes in .

December just as the chicks hatch. However, lick use drops in February about one month before the majority of the chicks fledge. This suggests that the annual peak lick use by ,Scarlet Macaws is due in part to the parents’ need to feed clay to young chicks.

This finding is corroborated by the food samples taken from the crops of chicks: chicks from 20 to 30 days old had soil in seven of eight samples collected while only one of eight samples collected from chicks over 50 days contained soil.

The reason why chicks

need more soil during the first few weeks of life is unclear, but may be due to nutrient needs or low resistance to toxicity. Chick growth data collected from Tambopata show that chicks grow very quickly  when young and that their weight reaches that of adults (about 900 grams) by approximately 50 days of age.

This suggests that the greatest nutritional needs of the chick are during these first 50 days. At all ages the parents arenature tambopata. feeding the chicks a mix of seeds that probably contain  reasonable quantities of toxins. While adult macaws and parrots have a very high resistance to toxins (as much as 50 times higher than adult humans for quinine, (Gilardi et al. 1999), the young chicks may have very low resistance to toxins. If chicks develop their natural resistance to toxins with age, this too could produce a pattern of lick use similar to that found here. The resolution of this dilemma awaits further detailed studies in this area tambopata.

Flora and fauna Tambopata Expedition

In summary, clay lick use in southeastern Peru is highly seasonal. Most species show simultaneous annual lows in lick use during the end of the wet season and beginning of the dry season (April – June). At this time the birds  apparently leave the area possibly in response to low food supplies in the area nature expeditions. Annual highs in lick use occur between July and February and differ among species. The peaks in lick use for most species studied coincide with breeding.

In particular it seems that adults are feeding clay to their young chicks during the period of maximum growth and perhaps lowest resistance to natural toxins found in their diet.
