HIGHLIGHTS

UNDERWOOD AMAZON TRAIL

Open Spaces in the shade of the crowns

The tops of the huge trees of the Amazon Jungle Trail, which lie between 35 and 60 meters above the forest floor, so let in light and intermittent weak-the 1% that the wreaths are only enough to cover the vital needs of the odd bush here and there. As a result, move inside the forest is quite Amazon Trail.

SANDOVAL LAKE – MALOKA LODGE SANDOVAL:

TAMBOPATA EXPEDITIONS CANDAMO  AMAZON TRAIL  : This study was part of an expedition to the Tambopata-Candamo Reserved Zone of the Peru Amazon run by Biosphere Expeditions from 27 May to 8 July 2001. It investigated parrot geophagy and compiled vertebrate species lists in an effort to elucidate behavioural patterns and reasons for geophagy behaviour, as well as human  and tourist impact on the clay licks (colpas) and the area in general. A small colpa was discovered by the expedition and seven parrot and one pigeon species were observed feeding at it over a period of 23 observation days. The study found that the most likely reason for clay eating is detoxification. It also found that on the small colpa discovered, there was evidence of a correlation between parrot body size and feeding behaviour: the smaller species were more likely to feed more often, whereasthe larger species tended to be wary and fed less often, or stayed off the colpa altogether. Whilst the smaller species appeared to be unaffected by human interference around the study site, the larger ones were thought to be disuaded from feeding by the presence of the researchers, even though hides were constructed. Because of this the study  concludes that, in contrast to large and open clay licks, small colpa sites as the one discovered are unlikely to be suitable for prolonged and sustainable touristic use.

The Amazon Trail sotobos receives only 1% of the light reaching the crowns

Easier than you might anticipate, sight to the eye level is limited to a tedious succession of small diameter logs that go steadily skyward, emerging from a populated dry leaved floor. Occasionally a giant tree, whose leaves you cannot see, appears to dazzle in the Amazon Trail.

The limited availability of food in the understory of the lowland forest has had a direct impact on the wildlife walk. Large herbivores are few and are found in low densities. We have only the tapir, the red deer, lead deer, and peccaries. These last two are relatives of the boar and are the only ones who can be seen in herds in the jungles of Amazon Trail. The great hunters are also scarce and puma, but especially the jaguar, have been forced to feed on whatever is at hand. Among its potential prey is all wildlife Underwood, a range of animals as varied as scarce. Among the most notorious: the anteater, that feeds on termites, the yellow-footed tortoise, turtle big fan size carrion, several venomous snakes, rodents portly as paca and agouti, armadillos and some animals several rare and little known animal such as the bush dog.

The horned toad living in Amazon Trail

The horned toad living in Amazon Trail full day.

The Horned Toad Trail amazon: {Cemtophrys cornuta) is the equivalent of the jaguar in the micro world of the lower part of the understory. It is an aggressive carnivore that does not hesitate to attack and devour animals their own size. Stalking, digging in the litter and leaving only his huge head off. A hop and find his victim trying to escape his enormous mouth that is within the nature of amazon Trail.
